Why your listings aren’t selling, and how to refresh them
A listing that sat for two months isn’t a bad item. How to tell what’s wrong, send offers to likers, and refresh listings on Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and eBay.

Every reseller has them. The jacket you were sure would go in a week. The vintage lamp that got eleven likes and zero offers. Two months later they’re still sitting there, and every time you scroll past them in your closet you feel a little worse about it.
Here’s the good news: a listing that hasn’t sold usually isn’t a bad item. Most of the time it’s one of three things, and all three are fixable in an afternoon.
First, figure out which problem you have
Before you change anything, look at what the listing is telling you.
- Lots of views or likes, no sale. People want it, but something stops them. That’s almost always price, shipping cost or a question the listing doesn’t answer (measurements, flaws, fit).
- Hardly any views. People aren’t finding it. That’s the title, the cover photo or the listing being buried under newer ones.
- Views at first, then nothing. It had its moment and slid down the feed. That’s the one a refresh fixes.
It helps to be honest here. If it got 40 likes, a new cover photo won’t fix it. If it got 3 views, a price drop won’t either.
When people like it but don’t buy
This is the best problem to have, because you already have interested buyers.
Send offers to likers
Poshmark, Mercari and Depop all let you send an offer to the people who liked an item. It’s the easiest sale you’ll make all week: they already raised their hand. Pick a number you’re happy with before you send it, so you’re not deciding under pressure when a counter comes in.

Check the shipping. A $28 item with $9 shipping feels like a $37 item. If the store lets you discount shipping, try that before you touch the price.
Answer the question they didn’t ask. Add measurements (pit to pit and length for tops, waist and inseam for pants), any flaws with a close-up photo, and how it fits. Buyers who have to message you to ask often just don’t.
When nobody’s seeing it
Start with the cover photo. It’s the only photo most people see before deciding to tap. Shoot it again in daylight, straight on, with nothing else in the frame. If the first photo is a close-up of a label, swap it for the whole item.
Rewrite the title for search. Think about what someone types when they’re looking for exactly this: brand, item type, size, color and one standout detail. “Cute top” finds nobody. “Free People ribbed tank top, size M, sage green” finds the person who wants it.
Make sure your photos are big enough. On eBay, photos have to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side, and eBay recommends 1,600 pixels so buyers can zoom in on details. Your phone’s camera is already well above that; the thing to avoid is cropping a small section out of a bigger shot.
When it had its moment and faded
Newer listings push older ones down. That’s just how busy stores work, and it’s why relisting is a normal part of reselling, not a trick.

How to relist on Poshmark after 60 days
Poshmark’s own Copy Listing tool now works for listings 60 days or older, and when you choose to replace the original, the likes move to the new copy. Their closet filter can also show you everything that’s 60 days or older, so you know what’s ready. Waiting the full 60 days matters: it’s the window Poshmark itself built these tools around.
How eBay renews your listings
If your listing is Good ’Til Cancelled, eBay renews it automatically once a month for as long as it’s up. Each renewal counts as a new insertion, so it uses one of your free listings for the month or you pay the insertion fee. A listing that’s been renewing for months with no interest is a sign it needs a new photo, title or price, not just more time.
How to refresh listings on Mercari and Depop
A fresh copy of the listing shows up as new. Before you post the copy, make your changes (new cover photo, better title), then end the old one so you never have two up at once.
A simple weekly routine
You don’t need to fix everything at once. Once a week, sort your listings by age and pick the five oldest:
- Look at the views and likes and decide which of the three problems it has.
- Make one change that fits the problem.
- Write down what you changed and the date.
- Check back in a week.
After a month you’ll start to see patterns in your own closet, and those are worth more than any general advice, including ours.
The part MagicListr does for you
We built MagicListr because we got tired of doing this by hand across five stores. When an item sells anywhere, MagicListr takes it down from your other stores, so a fresh copy on one store never turns into a double sale on another (more on that in how to crosslist without selling the same item twice). Inventory sorts oldest first, and every item shows how long it’s been listed, so finding this week’s five takes a minute instead of an hour of scrolling.
